Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SCS SB 967 -- ST. LOUIS POLICE COMPENSATION

CO-SPONSORS: Kennedy, House, Dougherty (Hagan-Harrell)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Retirement by a vote of 7 to 0.

This substitute requires the St. Louis Board of Police
Commissioners to provide health, medical, and life insurance
coverage for spouses or dependents of deceased or retired
officers and employees of the department who receive pension
benefits. Current state law prohibits the board from providing
these benefits to dependents.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the substitute will allow widows
and dependents who may not be able to find or afford health care
to continue to purchase health care through the St. Louis Police
Retirement System.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Kennedy; and St. Louis
Police Officers Association.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
